You Have Got To Get This Book!!

I ought to say that about the Bible (so, if you haven't one . . . get one! if you have one and haven't read it, read it. It is the best book I have ever read and re-read. Evah!). Okay, now that I've mentioned the most important book evah, I must say, this book "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" is one of the best reads I've stumbled upon by a modern writer in a while. Remember, I love the "Ladies No.1 Detective Agency" series and it's modern writing at it's best, in my humble opinion. Guernsey is a gem!

I put down a finished 1,000 plus paged "Hawaii" with absolute exhaustion. It was a long read and had me thinking about how people abuse each other rather than just look beyond our own selfishness (which is beyond just our needs to preserve our lives - the basic food, clothes, shelter). It was a difficult book to read, but worthy of the time it took to do so. I disliked some of the language, I hated the selfish behaviour of the white men who came down from the missionaries . . . and honestly, it's fiction, folks, but some history about the origin of the islands is weaved within . . . making a good story out of it. I was introduced to some fun characters, too. However, I was just so glad to be done . . .

. . . unlike this book Guernsey (that's what I'm calling it). I picked it up yesterday with a sigh, thinking, "please, God, let this book give me some laughs and bring me some new friends". I think I may pray that before all books I read from now on, for He did not disappoint! I did not want to finish it, but there are only so many pages written. Fantastically written! The author's notes were even interesting! I highly recommend you get a copy from the library if you can't cough up the dough to get your own copy. I could not put this book down . . . I did not want to stop to eat (although, I did, you know I did 'cos I'm such a pig). *snort*

I love the book so much I'm going to offer a copy here. If you want to win a copy of your very own . . . leave your name in my comment box and mention your favourite book ever (My goodness! when you love to read it can be a real challenge to do so) and why. You'll help me build a "should read" list and you may win a book I know you'll love! You'll love it so much, you will want to share it, too!

Comment box open! Who wants to win? Winner will be announced this Sunday. Good luck!!
Contest open to all around the globe. I'll mail it anywhere.

Sarah...I am an avowed bookworm so I can't even imagine choosing. Since I love all my spiritual reads and could not pick just one, I will list a *secular* book that I have read three times already--
"Lord of the Rings"--surprised? : )

Isn't it amazing? I loved it too - but don't put me in the drawing, I own it.

And, about "Hawaii" - I think it is required reading for anyone who goes to/lives in/flies over Hawaii. It was a fantastic look into how Hawaii was shaped, and I think that you really can see the effects when you are there.

But, it is a long book.

I'm in for the drawing! Favorite book after the bible is a very hard choice though. I think my top two would be "An Interrupted Life-The Diary of Etty Hillesum" and Thomas Merton's "Seven Storey Mountain".

Why don't you consider participating in Tuesday's Pondering Pages sponsored by Lara at Holy Mothering? It seems like you'd have a lot to share!

Wish me luck!

My favorite book-- after the Bible and the Catechism (which I have not actually read cover to cover)? I don't get much reading in-- How about "Pride and Prejudice" which I love. Also Loved "Story of a Soul" by Therese. Thanks for the recommendation and I'd love to win it!

I really appreciate your book reviews. I seldom go into the contemp/modern sections because I don't have much time to read ... and I don't want to waste that precious time on a dumb 'one'.

My favorite fictional book is Jane Eyre. I've only read it once - but I still have my first copy!

I don't know that I have a favorite book. I like so many of them. I'm currently re-reading the Little House series, so I'll pick them!

Sarah, I'd love to be part of the giveaway. And thanks for the recommendation. If I don't win, I'll search for it at the library. It is hard to pick my favorite book. But I think I'll say "Pride and Prejudice." It's such a classic story that I could never get tired of!

Oh, thank God. At least 8 have owned up to wanting to win the book. I check back here and see how much progress is being made . . . I'm always gratified when I see more than 5 interested. It will be pretty straight forward. I wish all of you the best of luck!!

There are alot of "deeper" books that I like, but three I guess will always be fun and kept my interest for me and they are, "Little Women," "Secret Life of Bees," and "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas," (which if have a real autographed copy of my James Patterson, because it had my name in the title and my friend arranged to get it!)
So, I'd love to win! Wonder what its all about..you've got my interest!
By the way, back to writing a little bit anyway! Suzanne

which I..not if, I mean! Ha! I also didn't mean those three are the "deeper" books I like..I was referring to more spiritual books which I have quite a few and I go through a little at a time...

I usually shy away from modern novelists, but this one intrigues me. Sign me up!

It is very hard to choose a favorite, but I'd have to say "Ruth" by Elizabeth Gaskell is my current fav. That could change tomorrow :-)
