The Mighty (Silly) Past
I don't know if you can click to enlarge - the photo's are so dern old anyway (just like their subject - moi!). This was the late 80's when I thought my shitskee didn't stink. I'm only sayin' what my mum said! Geesh. Anyhoo, if you can see it, I'm wearing a rosary. My non-practicing (tho' always praying) Lutheran arse was wearing a rosary. I tell you what, it wasn't 'cos Madonna (the singer) made wearing them popular. In fact, I bought it at a second hand shop in Pike Place Market (it was called Retro Viva) along with many other "punk" gear I could find. One of my fav finds there was my tux-tail black dinner jacket. I wore it constantly . . . even for senior pictures. I digress. I always thought rosaries were beautiful.

I don't know about you-all-ins but I'm lovin' my thighs (now) in these pics. I think I was all of 115 pounds then. I can't believe I thought I was fat! What is wrong with us? I'm chunky now, but I feel good. I wish I had felt good about myself then. I really really do. I look at these pics and think, "I did have fun, though." I look like a fookin' eejit. Sorry, there are no other words. It is how I'd say it outloud. I will try to refrain from using the word again, though. (Did anyone else notice Margarte in MN used it in one of her posts . . . actually, it was a brilliantly written piece about cussing - go read it).

WOW! Great photos of a punkster. When you said "punk" I thought you meant a little stinker. Man...you were sporten a hotpunkenwardrobe.
I came right off the farm and I had the puffed sleeves thang going. Oh and padded.
You look like you just got off the set of "Pretty in Pink"
Fun photos, maybe the previously owner of the rosary prayed for you? Maybe just the blessed object on you brought you many blessings?
Love the dirt in the previous post, love seeing dirt, wish it was that warm, our dirt is 3 feet under!!!
Ready to see you bust out in an 80's MTV video! :)
Wow, you're a posting fool today! I'm having trouble keeping up with the reading ;-0
Love the pics. I think you and I would have been friends if we had ever met in high school--we had the same terrible punky taste!
I wonder how many former Rosary wearers are now Rosary prayers?(Lotta good it did Madonna)
Those were great pictures! I was never brave enough to dress like that, and my parents would have killed me if I had worn a rosary!
Kissteen - I was so a punk in both uses of the word!
Jamie - I wish I had just stepped off the set of Pretty In Pink, among many of those films, but I think I'd have duked it out with the writers for making Molly's character cry all the bloody time, like, grow up you dumb cow!
JMJ - I would have liked to have been in the MTV videos, too, way back when. God, it's a wonderful thing I never got "discovered". I'd have been a right mess of a lost fool.
Mau - we could be friends now - our paths are crossing now. . . then you'll feel comfy to come see me in HI!!
Therese - My dad wasn't about to raise the roof (he's a quiet person and not likely to stand up to many - just as long as folks leave him alone; I left him alone - we actually got on good) and my mum was unstable and not likely to tell me to behave myself because she was A) afraid I'd kill myself (never threatened this, btw) or B) I'd run away. She was so insecure. Anyway, my parents didn't know I shouldn't wear it and neither did I. Appparently, though, many Spanish folks do.
I was my sisters anti-thesis. She was a goody goody who was a cheerleader etc. I was acting out.
I'll say you were...actin out! LOL!
You was sumpin else! LOL!
Thanks for sharing..you haven't been kiddin us.
Well, you won't catch me sharing any of my 60's wardrobe with you here online..no indeedy! Besides the mini skirts (after the school uniform was taken off) or the bell-bottom pants, and halter tops on occasion...you were lucky to find anything else sold in the stores, I had sewn a peace sign patch on the butt pocket of my jeans..Momma...said..GET IT OFF!
NOW! I didn't know till later that the peace sign is supposed to represent an upside down cross. Did ya ever hear that? That is what she heard and man alive..it wasn't going to happen..not in her day..not on her daughter's butt.
We argued..I lost. I'm glad now,
even though I had a ways to go after that.
I bet you're thanking your stars that you had a mum with castiron will! Yeah, try busting a hippie crap through that - NOT!!
Suz, you crack me up!
Actually, I do think of us as friends now :-) We just could have been friends earlier!
Well, Mau, I really appreciate that! Good: we're friends. Coffee date? We should drag JoMary out - she'll be needing a break after a bit more recovery time from flu in her house.
Absolutely! I would love to have you over for coffee before you leave for HI!!! I also owe you a bread recipe, although you might be better off buying the book, as I DO highly recommend it! You can drop your email address to me via me blog.
Great pics...I'm old enough that all my teen pics are in black and white! :) Cathy
Man, drag out the Ramones and The Clash ! Rock the Casbah, baby! LOL!
GrandmaK - black and white is so much more flattering, too. I bet you were a beautiful young woman.
LarryD - I loved those bands!
