On my birthday, I was chatting with someone on the phone (my mum? I can't remember, because my sleuthing brain was switched on by the following conversation):
Daughter: (breathless from running upstairs to find me) How big was the rice cooker you wanted?
ME: (speaking into the phone: hang on, my girl needs something): Uh, it was this big (showing her by my arms).
Daughter: Oh, okay. The white one with flowers on it, right?
ME: Yes. Why?
Daughter: I don't know. I wanted to be sure I guess (trying to be vague)
I deduced that:
A) my hubby had just called and did not want to speak to me
B) it's my birthday . . .
C) she's questioning me about specs
D) she was nowhere to be found when I started searching for her
AND,
E) when I was up chatting a neighbour, I saw hubby with said daughter gushing with secretive happiness in the backseat . . .
I just knew. But I was not any less happy about the discovery.
Yum. Rice. Done in larger amounts. I always did it right on the cooker, but in two separate pans. Love the rice cooker immensely. Thanks, guys.

That's funny!!! Aren't kids great? Have fun cooking rice!!
Rice cookers are great... You will love it. Glad you got just what you wanted.
Wonderful!!! I've been using a rice cooker for the last 30 years (since I returned from a year in Japan where EVERYONE uses one every day). I can't imagine how I could cook meals without it. My favorite feature besides that the rice comes out perfect every time? You can make it ahead and not worry about timing and it doesn't get ruined or cold just sitting there. Great gift!! Have fun!
Jamie, E, and Rosemary - I made rice yesterday and wow! Yum-o! I agree, Rosemary, those features kick butt!
Great Post. Thanks for stopping in at my blog today and wishing me a Happy Anniversary!
shall I give you prune juice for your birthday?? to go with all that rice!
;0)
Thanks, Kathleen Miller - I love your blog and I wish you and yours the greatest of remaining years together!!
MM - listen. I only need to drink some coffee and get nervous . . . no prune juice. I would be very afraid to start something like that. Anyhoo - if my cat doesn't poo soon, I may risk giving her some prune juice . . .
