Grocery Gripes

Crickles now understands why I loathe grocery shopping.
  • Even though at the commissary I do not pay tax, I pay a "surcharge" that is some times more than regular ol' tax.
  • When I use Self-Check I want to commit suicide every time I scan something and I hear that damn woman's voice say, "The weight is not correct for that item" and I haven't even put the item in the bag that's on the scale yet!
  • The "greeting" of Self-Check greeting me makes me want to pull my eyeballs out:  "Welcome to Self Check out; it's easy to use . . . "  ah, yeah, NO it's not!
  • The person behind me in Self-Check almost always runs me over as I am putting my purchases in my cart so I can leave . . .
  • Which leads me to say that the person in front of me always does.not.know.how.to.count 20 items!  They always have more!  Yes, I'm that "one" who counts!  I won't even use the lane that indicates 20 or less if I have 21 items.  I'm a stickler!
  • I always always always put more in my buggy than I intend!  And, not usually healthy things and with all that Christmas cookies and chocolate special tins out there I.am.lost.on.the.diet.front.
I hate grocery shopping.

Oh Sarah! This made me laugh! To use a phrase from Jack Nicholson..."I'd rather stick needles in my eyes" than go grocery shopping with my kids!

Diet? Diet?? Who said anything about a diet?

Sarah, I'm with you on this one! I hate grocery shopping and the cookies and chocolate are ringing a bell here, too. It's the diet death toll;)

Oh, sistah...I hear you on the item lane! Drives me nuts when people totally blow off the item limit! I'm like you, I won't use it if I have 1 too many!

Sarah-have you seen me shop? Because I think you have and actually wrote this post about me! :)

My husband can't stand any shopping whatsoever. I, on the other hand, don't mind grocery shopping so long as whiney kids are not with me. I got super spoiled when we lived in NE Ohio as 2 different grocery stores had areas where the kids could play (with supervision) while you shopped.

I am a bit nervous about the shift in shopping when we get to Alaska next month. It takes time to map out' where I'll get the best bargains.

I absolutely REFUSE to use the self check outs...I feel like it's putting real people out of jobs. Local Safeway just put in 4 self check outs, I see that as 4 cashiers our of a job that they no longer have to pay benefits on, but I don't see any reduction in my grocery bills because of it.

I feel the same way, Sarah... if the self-checker "notifies the attendant" that I need help for no apparent reason (and my fingers were NO WHERE NEAR the call attendant button) one more time, I think I'll puke all over it.

BTW - I'm a stickler, too! I count my items every time! No wonder we're friends!

Agreed! Grocery shopping is painful! I dream of the day that I'm so rich, someone will do the shopping for me--well, I guess that's not ever going to happen:)

Erika - there are usually always 2 attendants right there 'cos there are equally as many problems with the machines as the people using them, believe it or not. These self check things are not 100% idiot proof, and the dern things work idiotically, too. I can't count on my hands and feet any longer how many times it's NEVER me making the machine go wonky. Then, I have to have personnel help me. Ugh.
