Getting It Done

Today, Chief has gone above and beyond with our bedroom "make over".  By doing this huge project, he is tackling about seventeen-plus years of his own stuff.  You know, things he's accumulated from the Navy and not dealt with . . . he's now dealing with by sorting through all of it.  Manuals, trophies (MWR - Morale Welfare Recreaction sports), and awards (those, we keep, certainly).  He got the closet sorted and our bed repositioned against another wall (looks much better!), but . . . . our room still looks like some kind of war zone.  I know he's put in a great deal of effort today.  I hope he doesn't give up for whenever the fancy to finish strikes him.

In unearthing things, he did unearth a few more of my things which need to be dealt with.  Here's my take on it:  If I can't be bothered to deal with it myself, I may as well throw it all away.  The other take I have is:  When I look at this stuff, is it something I want my kids to decide about after I'm dead and buried?  So, the choice to make is to simplify it for them . . . it's easier for me to deal with it that way.  I won't be around for their thanks when that day comes (my death and their subsequent thanks for dealing with my junk, that is)  . . . but I will enjoy the fruits of my labour knowing that "I owned it" right here, right now.

I had coffee with my neighbour this morning and agreed to return later to watch her cutie pie son.  He's 18 months old and would be napping the entire time, maybe up to the last "leg".  He woke about ten minutes before her return . . . he was so upset (at first), but I didn't let that get to me.  I usually don't.  I guess old age has really calmed me down!  I carried him downstairs and released him to explore for himself that mummy really wasn't there and he was going to have to get used to me.  *wink*  Finally, I was able to get him to come to me and let me pick him up again . . . and I distracted him with pointing at things.  Then, gave him his bottle and some crackers.  He was quite happy then and restored to his mother ten minutes later.  During the time he napped, I finished the sewing part of the project for Christine (must make a run to Fiddlesticks in Honolulu to get the finishing touch).  But, I was so glad to have a few minutes to finish it up in total.silence.no.distractions.from.my.house.  Plus, I knew Chief was here slaving away . . . (pictures later).

Oh, and Hols has a new coat.  (Picture later).  It's a bit long on her, but it does not bother any of us as it looks likes she's wearing a dress/kimono.  Very cute!  Mahalo, Allison!!  Awesome job!!!

Now, I am chillin' out and getting dinner ready.  King Ranch Chicken tonight.  Tomorrow:  first time I've ever done it, but with the help of Ree's cookbook, I'm making chicken fried steaks!!!

Have a blessed evening!

And, by the way, if there are any spelling errors, it's my poor editing skills (I don't care until I care) and the fact that the new blogger post stuff doesn't have spell-check?

Wow, that got to you quick!

And oh no, I'm sorry it's too long! I went based on her length, I wonder what happened?!

If you want, you can send it back and I'll fix it. I don't want you unhappy with it!

Therese - hope things are looking up for you! Just love the family and relax.

REMIND ME to put up quotes from Confessions by Augustine . . . (this is a note to myself to do so, 'cos they are GEMS to be shared).
