Thoughts Before Coffee

Today I want to dare myself to drive into Honolulu (not as far in as where the condo was, but close) to find a craft store called Fiddlesticks. They carry a load of embroidery/cross-stitching type stuff. No yarns. I wish they did and I wish they had classes. I sure would like to try to learn crochet or knitting. One day I will. It will happen when Chief retires and we live in Minnesota. I bet that's when. Still, it is probably better I do not take up a new hobby when I could be so much better in the ones I already dabble in.

In the mean time, I do have some kits (cross stitch) to work on, but I really only have three I want to do . . . the others I may donate out - they don't interest me). There's a magazine from England I got (it was $9 for God'sakes and I'm keeping it) at Barnes and Noble. I got some great charts in it. Well, they put skill levels on stuff . . . I reckon I'm a 2 out of 3. I could be a 3 eventually, but I need to master some techniques. Fiddlesticks is the kind of store that can help me do that - and learn embroidery - when I get stuck. I do learn better by witnessing than reading/processing for these types of things.

I have to do this trip today . . . the rest of my week is going to be busy busy . . . if I'm going to do it this week. I'm glad I cleaned the upstairs bathrooms last night . . . I only have the guest bathroom downstairs to tackle today. Should be a quick job. I would have done last night, but I got really sweaty and needed to cool off and when I sat down on the big chair and put my feet up, I sorta stuck there.

I need coffee. See how dull my posts are without that injection of artificial energy?

Oh I want to learn too!!! I have no fun crafty skill except I can make stupid jello.

COME to Minnesota someday and you and I (when we are oldsters) can take a class and you can knit and I will probably go make jello and want to just gob your ear off.

I can gob. Gob means mouth same as talk right????

I had to laugh when I saw the title of your post because I was planning on sharing the following post with you from The Anchoress titled: With Your Morning Coffee. LOL! Thought you'd enjoy her brief coffee comments.

I can crochet and I knit on a loom-no classes required for the loom! Have you checked out youtube? It's actually where I started to learn crochet...

Also, you could host a giveaway with the cross-stich you don't want-I know I'd be in-I LOVE cross-stitch!

Kissteen - be careful, I'll hold you to that when we're old suggestion!!! Gob=mouth. So, when I say I'm gobsmacked, I mean to say I am surprised or shocked. I think you can say "I can gob" but I think Brits would say something like "talking" differently. I'll have to do some research. BUT I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN AND THAT IS ALL THAT COUNTS!!!

Melody - thanks for the linky. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Anchoress this am.

Therese - I'll add some of the kits to my give away. Good idea!

Your "more talented" and deeply honoured that you'd think that way, (but you're wrong) friend here and I am with Therese...look on youtube. They have videos on absolutely everything. No doubt there are many videos teaching knitting, crocheting or cross stitch stitches. Any one who knows how, would be happy to teach...so ask around (I'm teaching Jen to sew, stop laughing!) to find a teacher, rather than a class if youtube doesn't work for you. I'm working on my pay it forwards, and I am going to send you a little something too.

Erika - you know I love you. I know I have not been the good friend I should always be . . . I'm working on those things called "charity" and "generosity", both, of which, you have in abundance. I think it's great you are teaching Jen to sew. If I were anywhere in the radius of 100 miles, I'd pay you to teach me proper sewing form. I would! I'll check YouTube and other places. You would love the store I checked out today. Fiddlesticks will be a crafting haven for me . . . they even order in stuff you want. Hmmmmmm. I see a whole lotta stitching coming in to my future. I picked out something I think I can manage for my MIL for this Christmas. I can't wait. I need to finish the Brit bear now. Hurry hurry hurry the new stuff is beckoning!!!!!

I love that you're working on your 'craft', too! My scrapbooking still seems to get little to no time, but my baking is coming along, and the piano playing is really coming along!

I want to learn knitting, too! Odd for a girl who lives in the hot desert, I know! I do love cozy sweaters, though!

I don't think your coffee-less post is dull at all! This is just what our days are like without any 'puffery'... life isn't required to be breathtakingly exciting at all times, often isn't, and quite frankly, that's most likely a good thing... all the better to stay out of trouble! HE HE...

I can SO relate to doing something that makes you sweaty and then resting for a "minute" only to get "stuck" in sitting position! I had that yesterday when I cleaned out the garage! Only one side is done so far! But, boy! That made a huge difference!

LUV!

I'd also love to learn to crochet or knit. My grandma and my mom know how, but do you think I ever learned? No, of course not.

And yes, you should move to Minnesota. You'd have lots of friends there, me included ;)

Driving in Honolulu? You are one brave (or crazy) lady. I come to Hawaii on business periodically. I stayed in Honolulu twice -- that traffic was enough to cure me of beach-visit desire. Now I stay inland!

EM - after having lived in MD (D.C./Baltimore area) I find driving here a breeze. The traffic isn't that bad, unless your car hasn't A/C and you have to roast while you wait. There are too many cars on the road here, not enough roads here, or something. But, I reckon it's all the tourists and those dang buses! I live where folks get on and off the USS Missouri - thank God she's going to dry dock this month until January - those buses drive by my house all.day.long.every.day.
