I have found many many things I need to deal with. We evidently did not purge enough in Maryland so I need to work on figuring out how to shed this stuff without regrets and filling the garbage dump with stuff others would likely be happy to have/use. I must find a Goodwill or Salvation Army drop off site. I know there must be one or the other, and, I'll look into it once I have put it all together for donation.
I don't have time for a yard sale. I don't think we are "allowed" to have them anyway. I can make some phone calls to see about that. I can read the "book" that came with this house first so I don't confirm to anyone that I'm a dumdum.
Here are some pictures and commentary for your enjoyment (mind, they are a bit random as I did not want to post a couple of posts, but one jointly to save time):
Hopefully, Heather will be reading this one as this pic is just for her. She'll get it, but I'll tell the tale (it is short, so do be still). She said there was a website or something that had pictures of abandoned shopping carts - or perhaps a coffee table book of such pictures. Now, every time I see an abandoned "buggy" I think of her. Fortunately, I get to think about her many times over wherever in the world I may be since many folks like to "ditch" their rigs when they are done with them.
This crazy looking, huge, but kind of beautiful, moth was gracing the wall of the condo's garage. The kids said I shouldn't take its picture since the flash might set it in motion. I risked it and it stayed there . . . thank God, though, I'd have done a mess in my shorts had it flown at me at all!
The Hula Bowl. This is where they have that famous flea market three times a week. Good deals to be had, some pretty fine food . . . best deal on tee shirts I've ever seen.
The first EVVAH mail arriving in my post was this lovely handmade beach tote/bag made by Jenny of Elefantz in Australia . . . it was what I received for signing up for her Pay it Forward. I feel very blessed (and lucky - even though Catholics aren't supposed to believe in luck; well, I read it and I heard that, so if I'm a wrong in sayin' it, please tell me).
From one of the three windows in my bedroom, I get to see the top of the USS Missouri. And, my neighbours house. And part of the front lawn we share. The front lawn is generous so I'm thinking of buying a croquette set.
The dining room. Also, the craft area. I still have to roll out my carts etc. from the spooky under the stairs closet (it's not really spooky, but it has potential) and place them in this area. My sewing machine and pedal are found, reunited, and in a box under the craft table. I also have my pot holder making book out . . . ideas, ideas!!!
The pantry is coming along, but to me, still quite bare. Trust me, we aren't starving. To the left of the aprons so gallantly hanging on the pantry door is the pantry we brought with us. It holds many delights. Fattening delights, too.
Here's the living room. I love love love our new furniture. IKEA is pretty cool. It only has to last three years. Longer if we stay in HI longer, but let's let the first tour move along first, yeah?
That bookcase now has many many many more books on it than when I took the picture. That rocking chair needs to be hauled up to our bedroom. That blue chair and ottoman are MINE. But my kids keep parking their arses there knowing it's mine and then I'm the big, mean mummy making them move. Geesh!
This area is still a hot mess, but it will get put up and be done with by week's end.
Last, but not least, a pooped out Yorkie. She has been busy! We are walking her, running her ragged with chasing her toys, and just loving her up. She's endured a kind of heck I can't imagine with our separation, but you can just tell she loved begin at our friend's house, but loves being with us more. If she had to chose, it would be us and our friend would not dispute that. God bless our friend for taking such great care of her for two long months!
Amen. I'm done. It's only 8:47 pm my time, but I am usually tuckered about this time of night these days. I'm up at 5:30am most mornings any more. Makes for a long day. A full day, but a long one. I thank God for every minute.
Now, let's move on to other topics 'cos this moving talk has done me in and, probably you, too.

Sarah, the strangest thing happened while I was reading and looking at all your pictures...I could actually feel and re-live moving times with my late sweet hubby. It was incredible...I 'breathed' it and it was good. Though they choke me up to no end, I love those moments.
You are really coming along with the settling in part...it's so tough when the boxes are all there, you open them and sheer chaos is everywhere.
Your IKEA furniture looks great and make sure you don't lose the 'fight' for your chair.
What a nice 'house warming' gift you got and all the way from Australia!
blessings and hugs and an aloha for your new home,
marcy
How wonderful to be settling in! I love the aprons! Old-fashioned grandma aprons are the best! How about a picture of you or one of the kiddos wearing it and cooking up a treat!
Your home will be wonderful - look at the awesome mom who runs it! I'm so glad your family is reunited!
