Lovely Lyrics (by Jan Struther for Libera)

When a knight won his spurs

When a knight won his spurs in the stories of old
he was gentle and brave he was gallant and bold
with a shield on his arm and a lance in his hand
for God and for valour he rode through the land

No charger have I, and no swords by my side
yet still to adventure and battle I ride
though back into storyland giants have fled
and the knights are no more and
the dragons are dead

Let faith be my shield and let joy be my steed
gainst the dragons of anger the ogres of greed
and let me set free with the sword of my youth
from the castle of darkness the power of truth.

Music English Traditional Tune Arranged by Robert Prizeman (MCPS)
words by Jan Struther
Performed by Libera on their album "free"

nice background! Hey, this poem/song sounds like something out of Men of Iron!

Thanks, therese. I decided to go with a background blogger offers as there seems to be less issues with loading times. I liked this one - lighthouse.

Dawn - I don't think it's from Men of Iron, but it does bring that type of book to mind, doesn't it? I just love the lyrics - full of HOPE.

I agree....great look JOT! I also do not like blogs that take forever to load up because of all the do-dads. Simple is sometimes better.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and thumbs up on my change up. I like it, too. It is easier to read - and y'all know how much I love to read!

If you haven't heard Libera perform this song (it's on their album called 'free') - ah, it's just well done. English ballad.
