I'm Going To Hang Up Now . . .

But, only for a while. I have a ton of books to read . . . I have to read them in order to review them. In the mean time, do not read The Shack. Sorry for all those who "love" this book, but I know it's crap. I put my copy in the bin where it belongs. I'll keep it simple: it's not right. In fact, it's very "new age Christianity". I'd rather roast in a fire than give it a good review. Quite plainly: God would never appear to a person as a woman. Why not? It's possible, perhaps, but I really rather doubt it. Even Jesus called Him Father. That's pretty clear: He's a he for our understanding of this life being about the Marriage Feast and all that. I can say that if someone reads this book, they'd really be better off reading the New Testament. The NT is solid. Why read the Gospels fictionalized? Read the Bible!

Oh oh oh!!! My book club read this book and I have to say that it was the only book in three years that I refused to read. I just refused. I held it in my hands. I read the back cover. I flipped through it and stopped in a couple of random spots to read a sentence or paragraph. I listened to the dear friend who's pick it was extol all it's virtues. But my heart just said No. It just said No. And so I didn't read it. You have put it into words so much better here than I was able to, but you are so right. I just knew it was crap.

Oh good, Cassie. I am glad to hear that someone refused to read it. It's not being mean to say "no" to this book - this book just screamed at me "NO". I read it . . .I can see how folks get pulled into it . . . but the middle of the book is all an expounding of sorts of the Gospels. Essentially, the main character is approached by God appearing as a woman because the main character would not accept God as a male figure since his earthly father was such a jerk. That pretty much floored me. What? We can't handle God as He is? Whatever! Then, Jesus told the main character that there are many paths to God . . . well, that's pretty shakey theology.

Please do skip it, MM!

Jamie - I'll be putting up a few reviews and my usual by the end of next week - or sooner.

Oh my. Thanks for the tip against this book. I couldn't imagine reading a book that portrays God as a women. :::sick:::

Oh my goodness, I am so happy you posted about The Shack! A dear friend of mine kept telling me to read it, and saying it would help in understanding the Trinity...I read it, and got about halfway through. I just couldn't get into it, and I never understood why, until I read your post. I totally agree! It just didn't sit right with me, and as I'm typing this, you hit the nail right on the head. I was cracking up at your post too...that was too funny. You've got quite a way with words. :-)

Well, Jen, when I'm a lookin' at a pile of dung, I'm not going to pretend it's roses, eh?

I felt better about spending that money on The Shack after I put it in the garbage bin. :-)
