Iron

I do not know what my numbers are for my iron count yet, but I did give the necessary blood to find out this morning.  The doc sent me home with prenatal vitamins (huh? I guess 'cos it's the only multi-vitamin the military dispensory has???) and iron tablets.  Great!  I'll have energy and not be able to poop.

But, I WILL HAVE ENERGY!

I think it will be key in my losing weight.  You do not move when you don't have energy.  I mean, I get things done, I go shopping, etc., but I do not have it in me to daily bring my heart rate up (and I can't count scaring the piss out of myself when I nearly crash down the stairs and my heart comes up my throat . . . which, this happens almost on a daily basis).

I will also, unfortunately, have to cut way back on my coffee consumption since it hinders iron absorption.

But, I'm psyched to get healthy again!

Take the iron at night. Iron and calcium also cancel each other out, and prenatal vit's have lots of calcium. So have that in the morning (with your coffee) and take the iron before bed.

I second the night time idea, Iron never sits well with me if taken in the a.m.
I sure hope you get your energy back, I know that feeling all too well, only my lack of it usually comes from bouts of depression, but nevertheless lack of energy just is not fun.

No energy is the PITS!!!! You live in such a beautiful place, it is a shame to have no energy to get out and enjoy it. If you lived near me, you would be shoveling snow! Hope you get your energy back soon!!

Dessicated liver tablets helped a woman I know get her iron back up.
I am waiting for menopause to get mine back up LOL!(Red Cross won't even let me give blood anymore because my iron is so low.)

Try taking fish oil. It is good for you AND it helps me stay regular! ;o) Maybe it will help you with the increased iron. Hope you are better soon.

Didn't know you were feeling that bad, sista! Iron hurts my tummy so bad when I take it in vitamin form, so I have to try to get it in my foods. So, I hope you don't have that problem. Maybe that is why some of your friends here take it at night. I literally will bend over writhing in stomach pains for several minutes after it starts to digest...its awful. I think there is time released iron..probably would not hurt like that. At any rate, I hope you'll be feeling better real soon, sweetie!:)

Eat an apple every day and have a glass of Metamucil (store brand/sugarless) every night. Solves the poop problem...

And yes - iron at night, prenatals in the morning. Wise advice everyone is giving you.

Whoooooot! Go you!
I got a list of things to eat when my iron was low during pregnancy - lots of dried fruits and nuts, nettle tea, blackstrap molassas.

Just think what the prenatals will do to your hair and fingernails too!!
Hope you do start feeling better and the Drs. find out what is bugging you.

I did not know that coffee hinders iron absorption. Wow, that's unfortunate. Hope you feel better soon.

Take your iron pill with a glass of juice. Vitamin C boost the absorption. Eat lots of spinach salad, too, Popeye!
