In the Words of My Funny Father . . .

In answer to a question in the last post comment box:  YES, Teenie got a ZERO today in PE, because she did not have her three pronged folder.  Mind, I've never heard of getting NO GRADE for showing up and not having a folder.  It's not a big deal to forget a folder, especially an EMPTY one, you morons. (I'll amend my one comment about specifying a specific public school system, to state that probably all of them have problems and issues).

I think it's pretty clear in the following paragraph that I don't agree with constantly making excuses for our children, but I won't make excuses for stupidity either.  My daughter took the zero (along with about twenty others) and we're not making a formal complaint; I'm just having a 'go' here, 'cos it gets it off my chest.  I was such a pain in the butt, back when I was in school, if I was going to get zero for not having my folder, I wasn't going to participate.  She, however, was raised better than that and suited up, participated and still got a ZERO.  The class is PE, not "bring your folder class".

Also, do you know that the supply list "insists" on each student bringing a box of pencils and a box of pens to almost every class . . . to become property of the classroom?  These kids aren't being taught to take care of their own responsibilities that way.  If they go to school, forgetting their pens and pencils, why, that's okay, there is a massive heap of them in each classroom.  Trust me, it was better when we were growing up and EXPECTED to fend for ourselves.  Forget something?  Borrow it or you are up the creek.  In any event, writing instrument-less means you better have a dern good melon on your neck.  We also remembered to eat breakfast every day.  Kids today are constantly being reminded to eat.

At Office Depot a few minutes ago, where we were buying this now irritating reminder of a folder, I bumped into a friend of mine (her girl is in Crickles class).  She said her girl got her shoes thrown into the rubbish bin in music class today, "because they were more than a quarter inch from the wall."

Don't these people KNOW I am trying not to swear any more?!?!?!?!?!

As my dear old dad would say in such circumstances, "that really burns my ass."

First let me say that there are some great teacher out there. My kids have had some of the best! Some I adore and have requested more than once as my children have moved up through the public school ranks. My oldest is even going to college to be a teacher (and if he isn't a good one and I find out about it, I'll box his ears!!!). That said...well, I think that a lot of teachers (I know this isn't a popular thing to say) just like the fact that they can intimidate the children and the parents through the children. Aren't they powerful? They make 30 kids and 60 parents jump with a click of their fingers. Burns me too!

Loralyn,
Yes, there are many good teachers out there, but there are some really big dinalings out there, too. I don't understand teachers being OCD to the point they throw shoes out (for the kid to fetch later) . . . or grading the kids based on their supplies. It begs the question: is the focus really on education? Not in these circumstances. All they are doing is teaching the kids other venues to treat others like dogs. What's the big whoop about either of these infractions?

what's the deal with the shoes? I don't get it? Sorry you are having such aggravation with those things.

Your school stories really do make me cringe. My own experience included situations where kids had the upper hand in some classes ... also very intimidating and scary. It all comes down to a lack of respect for others. What exactly is being taught by 'these' guidelines/rules??

Erika - AWESOME. Sarahs(dot)Journey(at)yahoo.com

My brain is just warming up . . . Dawn, it is currently 5:55am . . . going to make coffee and ring you up.

Suzie - that's the big question. They have all this bullying literature and talks, yet some teachers have bullying moments and/or issues.

That is just plain ridiculous!!!

All I can say is I'm glad I homeschool!! Not that you should or anything, just saying for me!

I couldn't handle all those dumb things! You are doing great, it's giving you patience, right?

What a friend you are...willing to rub my bum!!

anyhoo....you will find dorks in the drs. office, at school, PARENTS....do not even get me started on the wacko parenting that is going on....sign of the times?? Cannot figure out what is wrong with commen sense now-en-days.

I think your pops had something going with being upset and rightly so....there are a lot of things that burn my arse too (besides I have real pain in my arse)....politics....ugh!!!

I didnt seem to notice that much screwyupness when I was a kid. Might be because we have high standards which is good....but...humans are humans...were are a crazy bunch.

sorry to hear you got some rotten teachers there.

I have had some really good ones and some really bad ones also. College had to be the worse. I got a D in women studies because of the lesbian teacher drove me nutz with her liberal agenda. ugh.

I also had some that were super-duper. Teach your young-pups that this is what it is like in the real world. You will have ass-hole bosses and some good ones. Good priests and not so good. Good cops bad cops...such is life.
