I've known myself to be slightly (the doctor's words, not mine, I just "go with it") anemic for about two years or so. I've tried taking the iron tablets, but they make me feel like shit. And, then . . .duh! I go . . . a lot. It's ugly. You would think I would have problems going with all that iron taking. Not me. I have to be
Apparently her daughter is anemic, too. So, my sister's doctor ordered a celiac disease test to be done. It's hereditary. It's the disease where your body has issues with gluten. Anyway, it is related to diarrhea, anemia, etc.. Your body cannot absorb nutrients, therefore resulting in strange bowel issues and, anemia.
I'm beginning to think I need to be tested for this, especially if my sister's test comes back positive. It certainly would not surprise me if I have it and have been mistakenly identified as a sufferer of IBS. For over ten years. Before my number goes down any further, I need to look into this. If not only for me, but my kids. It would explain their sudden runs to the terlit now and again, too. Very interesting.
I think a year ago I'd be thinking, "Oh, no! Good-bye pizza, good-bye candy, etc." but now I'm at the point in my life where I may complain a bit, but I'll more likely say this: "hello, health! It's nice to see you again!"

You should definitely have the test, Sarah. Strangely enough, I have felt as though I've had IBS for awhile. Some say it's the result of my hysterectomy....but NOTHING has been the same since my surgery (if you know what I mean).
Is it just a blood test???
You might want to investigate all natural ways (Internet searches) to increase your iron without the pills which can be so "lethal". I was anemic as a child but seem to be fine now but those iron pills are whew, something else for sure.
blessings and hugs,

I'm glad you made this post. My Dad has been having some problems lately and has been diagnosed as having IBS, but he doesn't strictly follow the symptoms. I'll ask if they checked him for anemia. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for the heads up...my iron levels are rarely high enough to donate blood (13) and are often around 8-9 and I just thought it would be fixed by eating more spinach! Silly me. Time to pay attention to my body!
Celiac is often misdiagnosed. I would get the test too if I were you at least for peace of mind. Prayers and hugs, Sarah!
Praying for health for all of your family there, dear. There are things I understand one can do.

Your poor sister though, she must be sooo run down.
Prayers that your are good and healthy! Big cheeer for healthy poops!
I struggle with low iron, too, ever since I started having children ... I've never thought about being tested for something more serious, though ... Hmmm. I'll have to mention this to my doc. the next time I'm in. May God guide you as you figure things out.
that was my case too ... severe anemia ... they wondered how i could even get out of bed! my total ferritin was 2. I had to go in for weekly iron infusions straight into my veins.
