Po'akahi (pho-ah-kah-he) **Monday**

What am I up to today?

I'm making rosaries. Remember my mum asked me to make seven of the same I made her last year? She bought the parts, I do the making. No big deal, except, it hurts.

It hurts to use my finger/thumb to bend the pin at a 90 degree angle once it's through the bead. I would use my pliers, but they slip and flip across the room, which is not good 'cos Holly will ingest anything she thinks might be food (in this case, blue caviar). But, I need not complain too much. I made two last night. Five to go. Alas! I discovered a wonky center piece . . . this will slow down production! I will have to wait about a week to get a new center piece delivered (with, ahem, a few other center pieces so I can make rosaries out of stuff I have sitting here . . . later giveaway, me thinks!). I also ordered presentation boxes 'cos mum's giving them to the members of the Marian group she belongs to.

I'm also starting to work on, for real this time, Christine's pay it forward. Everything is sitting out before me . . . and I can't wait to get started!

We have made plans on how to gift the families for Christmas this year. We have the large flat rate boxes (just two) and we will fill them with Hawaiian goodies for everyone to enjoy. We will ship to our parents and the siblings and nieces/nephew will have to enjoy over at the grandparents. Simple, affordable, enjoyable. Next year, we'll have to try and be more original again.

Moving to Hawaii has given us great gift ideas . . . but I wonder if the Aloha will wear thin (for them). Not us. We are having a blast! I mean, once they eat ONE Hershey's Kiss with macadamia they will long for them . . . and likely enjoy getting a bag or two every Christmas (for the next three years, at least). How do I know this? Well, because I love chocolate, of course! BUT, also because when I moved to the East Coast - away from anywhere near a See's Candies . . . getting that pound box at Christmas every year was like uncovering gold! We have a See's again, but I'd rather have the Kisses!

Well, I'm off to be productive! Have a fantastic day, y'all!

I don't think gifts from far away states or countries ever wear out. My SIL has been living in Germany for a few years now and we all enjoy (and will continue to enjoy for as long as possible!) the coffee and chocolates she sends. Plus, she has purchased some amazingly adorable clothes and gifts for our kids.

What s the time different from here to there? I'm on at 7:30 am....Are you that early of a riser? Good luck with your projects.

Hawaii is three hours behind the Pacific Standard Time. It's 6:34 AM here, therefore 9:34 AM in Seattle.

I think that may change when the states that do fall back/spring forward an hour . . . but only change by an hour. I don't think HI does that. We'll find out, I guess.

Our alarm goes off at 5:30 AM M-F, for the kids to leave for the bus 6:20 and 6:50 respectively. The youngest goes first, but he doesn't mind as he's an early riser. I've just learned to be - when I have to. ;)

Yes, when the pile of them (rosaries) are made, I will snap a picture. ;)

Sarah, I make rosaries too. I find it is a lot easier to bend that eye pin when I first stick it in a vise of my husband. It's small and sits on the table. I stick the pin in, add the bead, bend it 90 degrees and then make the circle. Then I take it out. For me, it's so much easier. If you're not sure what I mean I could take a picture. It's like a clamp for working on projects requiring fine motor skills, if you know what I mean.

Rosemary - I know what it is, amazingly! My dad is a woodworker and tinkerer . . . I also took wood shop classes in high school . . . I don't think we have a vise in our toolbox . . . I'll look, as it's a good idea. My hands work it out okay, I just take breaks every thirty beads or so. I just want to get them done as they are on my "to do" list and have been for about a month now, I think! Time to get crackin' so I can get them in the box that goes with my dad's birthday stuff in November.

Never thought about how it could hurt after awhile with the wire parts of the rosary. Most of the hand made ones I see are cloth or rope...have you ever made those?

Love that your mom wants rosaries made by you...what a loving gift, too!

blessings and hugs for strong hands,

marcy

Marcy, yup. I order rope/beads from Our Lady's Rosary Makers (I'm a member) in KY. Great stuff. I usually buy bulk of the beads and rope . . . give them away. My mum is going to ask her parish if they'll take some off my hands since the person that made them for them on a regular basis has moved away and they are seeking someone to replace them. I'm willing, it's just "the distance" (HI to WA state). I can't sell them. And, I can't make rosaries to sell them either. If someone tips me a bit, that's one thing, but I only ask they pay for the parts, my work is for Our Lady.

And I meant tips for the link chain rosaries not the rope/bead ones, which are only for giving away as per the agreement with OLRM's in KY.
