Do I have the ability to shrug off the world's seemingly crazy business and live in awe of Christ's love for me?
YES.
I believe I have said this before (here, on this blog) that I am not particularly political. I also believe I am not as formally educated as many others are. Often times, I feel limited in my knowledge on many subjects, which used to cause me a great deal of unrest.
God gave me life. That is one of the many gifts He gave me. I believe it would be really rather daft of me to walk about, living my life as if He created me to feel poorly about myself; that I were nothing in my own estimation because I feel that I am not esteemed by others.
Much of what I do not know is because I am not digging it up. Quite frankly, what goes on in Washington disturbs me and much of it I cannot fathom to understand. I do understand what is happening and what "they" want to have happen, but I don't understand.
I do not understand people who lord "it" over others. I do know that there will never be true equality between people, but that it is noble to try as long as it's not unbalanced. It is a difficult balance. I understand how people become power hungry and how they can rise to power, whether honestly or dishonestly. I understand how power can become a monster uncontrolled. I do not understand the ugliness of it - the desire to be inhumane to others to gain power. Eventually, unchecked, the one in power will either be replaced or the only one left. It is like getting richer - when will it ever be enough? There never will be enough in the gaining. It is insatiable.
My blog is purposefully not political in nature, because, if I am to write about politics, I better know what I'm talking about. I better have my sources straight. And, then, I don't want my blog to be about any governmental administration because at the heart of it, I can look up the news any old time. I want my blog to be fun. I do not want to dwell on the depressing events of the current going-on in our country every.minute.of.every.day. There are some fine blogs out there that put out fine reporting. I'm leaving it to them. I enjoy those blogs and I am grateful they are there.
I find this government to be . . . . a challenge. Their ideas are not new. Their ideas have been tried elsewhere. They don't get that there is no Utopia. At least, not here on Earth.
Every now and again, I trip up and question with the WHY, GOD, WHY?
He will lean down, embrace me, get me on my feet, and tie my laces for me. "Dear, daughter. You know why: Free will. No one can take that from you. If I ask you to suffer for them, will you?"
God, You know I will.
It is in the joining of our suffering with Christ that we will experience our greatest joy.
God is no secret. His joy is for you, too.

You are so right about Free Will.
When he gave us free will, he gave us all that goes along with it. Good and bad. It is up to us to strive to live lives that are pleasing to him.
Love your post today. Makes me take a moment to think.
Your reasoning is why I chose to seperate my blog and make a new one. I wanted to have one completely or nearly so fun and family. I call it my fluff blog.
The other is entirely for me to rant on. I have to be able to get it out of my system, or I would explode. Wouldn't be pretty at all.
Glad your package arrived today. Did not even think of priority to Hi. when I sent it.
Thanks again for a very thought provoking blog today.
Your words are to be treasured because of their honesty. You have that gift and I am glad to know you! This post is honest truth about who you are and that endears you to me even more.!! Have a grand day! Cathy
I love this! I can just picture God bending down to tie your shoelaces-what a great image! I'm with you-I avoid politics like the plague. I am not well educated or well spoken, I just want to draw myself and others closer to God and have a little fun in the process.
God bless you Sarah!
well..I love the political argument...but that's my competitive side. I also love those folks out there like you and Anne who can write such beautiful things about Our Lord. I'm good at research but not much at writing. So I find my spiritual stuff in you and maybe you'll get something out of my political mumbo jumbo :).
While there is value in political discussions and educating oneself and being aware, there is even more value in taking it to another level and trying to resolve or do something about it.
I think it is an apt correlation to my recent Bible reading which emphasizes repeatedly that while the speaking of tongues is a good gift of the Holy Spirit its' true value lies in interpreting and sharing the message.
The world is a tough place so I attempt to provide a little 'oasis' from it all in my blog while still finding and sharing new facts but always ending with humor and a prayer.
You are doing a good job with yours, Sarah!
blessings and hugs,
marcy
What a beautiful post, Sarah!
So well said. Thank you..I needed that today. You know, we rise, pray, ask God to help us with those shoelaces, educate ourselves, carry out what we can, and take care of our families and ourselves..using our free will..not being lazy, but being balanced and knowing that we can say to Him...I hope I'm doing well as Your Servant, Lord. I guess we can think of Mary following her Son to the Cross. There is so much crying out and yelling she could have done, but she didn't and she handled it in the way that it was meant to be...she didn't leave him but went onto the end and that is what we do just do the next right thing to the end and hopefully it is a reasonably happy life because we tried like His good little child ... not the child of the earthly power mongers.
We are having a political gathering in our town and I've already been to one. I will attend..just like I have attended the Walks for Life..I won't act a fool..I will only pray to be who God wants me to be and for protection..its better than nothing, yet it is doing the next right thing reasonably well with the Holy Spirit in lead.
Thanks, Sarah and all of the other commentors..prayers............
Very good post!! The kids ask me all the time about why people do bad things and why God lets them do it. Free Will. Love. Because He loves us.
Great post, Sarah.
I keep my bloggy fun also. I agree with you about politics and equality. If the gubberment would just stay out of our lives and let people take care of people that works for me.
Helen Keller was a socialist. However, it was a capitialist who supported her financially in the end. Interesting.
If people would just do God's Will...oh my it would be like HEAVEN!
Sarah,
I tried to contact Fr. Daren today and saw your message to him. You are sooo sweet! Cookies from Hawaii??!!! Wow!
I'm actually in the middle of writing a formal letter, but couldn't helping coming here. :-)
Hugs...
The cookies are from Honolulu Cookie Company. I hope he'll enjoy them. He likes pineapple, and, if you have had theirs (I assume you have), you know they are good! Thanks for coming by, Easter. God bless you and hugs right back!
Good post. Your blog has a ministry to me - and many. Politics aren't my bag - but occasionally I rise up and open my mouth - but then, it's my perrogative to - so far, it's a free country, eh?
Love ya!
Alexa
Amen! Amen! so true. Beautiful. And you do have a fun blog.
On the subject of others' opinions... Someone yesterday said to me, "What others think of me is none of my business." I like that. Truly, what they think will be what they think.
Yes Sarah...I agree with you. I started doing political stuff on my blog, but it just didn't jive with posting on Carmelite spirituality. So, I just re-direct when something is going on that needs attention. There are many good blogs that keep us up-to-date. I enjoy reading yours...it's light and fun...keep it up ; )
Excellent post!!!
