Tomorrow morning begins the open house schedule for my kids. Tomorrow is Teenie's, the next day is Squirrel Boy's, and the 29th is Crickles'. Crickles will start school the 30th and the other two start school the 3rd of August.
The advent of the school year.
On one hand I am thrilled for them, because they'll get to meet kids. On the other hand (and a very selfish one at that!) I have to drive them to school. From downtown Honolulu. Thankfully, the traffic out of downtown is easy going in the early AM. The way back, by my little lonesome, will take a bit longer. The trouble is getting them all to school before the first bell . . . when they all have the first bell within minutes of each other. I think I have a plan on how to get them all dropped off without making them late and without back-tracking. The older two's schools are on the same road, separated by a few miles (not many really) and the youngest is off a road from that same road the older two are on. With traffic . . . a lot of planning is going into how to get them there on time and get them picked up reasonably w/out scaring any of them into thinking I'm not coming ('cos I can't anticipate my arrival time w/out knowing traffic patterns and keeping in mind they get out within minutes of each other most days and then there are early release days - the younger two the same day; SB a different day- which is an arse twisting I don't need).
What keeps me calm is knowing that I will only have to do this less than two weeks. Because by then we'll be moving into our house and I can pay the bus fees (oh, yes, darlin', bus fees! Yes, my knickers are in a twist over this: $123.00 EACH). But, I'm paying it.
I'm making brilliant progress on my stitchery. It's looking so cute, I am going to have to make myself one some day. I've had to redo a few lines once I realized I had buggered a few things. The lighting in here isn't the best in the morning or the evening. So, I laid it aside just now to wait until the sun is full on . . . I do not want to have to redo any more. Not to mention, whenever I do make a mistake I'm baffled by it because counting cross stitch makes the worst of my OCD come out. I'm not pulling your leg. I count and recount until I chastise myself.
It does not help that I drink coffee like water. I'm already jumpy enough! But, I am a masochist I guess, since I cannot forgo the cuppa ever. It's ridiculous.
Thank you to those who have prayed for me with regards to reading and gaining insights on prayer from "The Fire Within". Last night whilst reading it (even with the distraction of Stargate SG1 in the background) I learned more about humility and pride - ouchy! But, necessary. If you can't face yourself honestly, you may as well pray that you can face yourself before trying to make progress. If you can be honest with yourself about your thoughts and actions . . . how you think about yourself and others . . . headway may just happen. This book is making me think about many things, that is for sure.
If God is calling me to surrender all, what exactly is "all"? I'm asking Him to show me . . . my reaction to it may not be pretty on some counts, I'm sure, but I want to do this. If I really love Him, wouldn't I go above and beyond for Him? I sure do this when I want a material thing - even sacrificing my budget (not smart, I know). And, I have to be honest, I don't listen as I should. I ought to shut my mind's 'trap' so to speak. I'm working on that.
I pray you all have a blessed day.

Wow your kids will be starting school early!!
I drive my kiddos every single day to school and pick them up.
The bus ride home is almost 1 whole hour long with crazy middle school kids.
I guess Hawaii starts like the south-early! My boys don't start until Sept.1st. Will be praying for your 3 as they start!
The kids start school here August 12. Seems summer gets shorter and shorter every year...and I don't even have to get children ready for school anymore.
I'm still struggling with "surrendering all>" There is that element of fear in there...As you said, "What is it?" Praying for you and praying for me! Have a grand day!
wow, that is early. is it year round school??
and paying for the bus. . .interesting. kinda a good idea i guess.

Sorry I'm late on this.
I missed that you're reading Fire Within. Excellent, excellent book. One of my top 5 faves. I found that I could take a lot more away from that book by reading 2 of his other books first:
Prayer Primer
Seeking Spiritual Direction
I'll be glad to see you get settled.
