+JMJ+ is running a Saint Search for those of you who may be interested in a Saint friend for 2009, either for yourself, family, or your blog (if you have one). Here's where the Lord lead her for my requests:
For your family - the first one I ever chose and the patron of my blog this year, St. PETER JULIAN EYMARD (aug.3)Quote - To abide in His love is to make the Eucharist the center of our desires. To abide in His love is to delight in surprising Him with some gift, or some little sacrifice. To abide in His love is to live by the Eucharist; to guide the good service of the Eucharist to everything else.
Pray that souls make Jesus in the Eucharist their first joy in life. This is the saint of Eucharistic Adoration, time spent in silence adoring Our Lord.
Remember at the Garden of Gethsemane when our Lord asked the disciples to watch? "Could you not watch one hour with me?" He said. Perhaps your family is being called to a Holy Hour?
And for you, dear - Blessed Pope John XXIII praying that the *true* spirit of Vatican II would bear fruit in the Church. Lots to read on this topic, what was intended, what was never intended....

I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know St. Peter Julian Eymard. I love that he is all about the Eucharist, and, +JMJ+ couldn't have been more spot on about our family needing to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament. Together.
My late Father-in-law had a soft spot for Blessed Pope John XXIII. Not only did he get to see him in person from several feet away while the Pope was declaring another saint in 1963, he lived long enough to see their new parish church, John XXIII, built. My FIL was the first funeral held there. I did not realize that my FIL prayed the rosary every day until after he passed away. There was one man, a K of C, who prayed almost daily with him while he was in hospice (at home). A year after my FIL passed away, we happened to be back for the family reunion and mom wanted to go to the grave. On a whim, I took my $2 John Paul II rosary that I had bought at the JP2 Center in D.C., from my rear view mirror, which had been blessed by my priest (at that time, Father Juan Perez) and hung it from a wrought iron hook at his graveside. My MIL every now and again will say to me in sweet surprise: "You know, I expected after the first Iowa winter it would have rusted . . . It's been a few years now and it still looks brand new."

What a beautiful post. The part about your father in law is so moving - I feel really touched. John XXIII now rests in St Peter's so when I was there in 2005 I was lucky enough to say a prayer in front of his caskett. He was (another) amazing Pope!
