Relaxing . . .

These are not the Christmas cards I am going to be making tonight . . . I'll post a picture of them tomorrow. Tonight, however, I am going to ENJOY making 50 Christmas cards with a group of gels up the lane. I can't wait! I'm not sure who the lucky recipient of said cards will be, because I don't need them and I won't be using them. I have some beautiful cards left over from last year (purchased from Barton Cotton) and I may not even send those out.
My thoughts on sending Christmas cards this year: I'm tired. The pressure is overwhelming. I may send one for every one who sends me one. Or, I may get off my butt and write a "letter". I've never done "the letter", but I know enough now not to write a damn novel or brag about how many places on the globe we've been (we haven't, but even if we had, I don't like to go on and on about how Prague was this time of year or how we helped put in a well for folks in Ethelbert, WA). You know what I mean? I like the ones we get that have milestones (John is 8 and a Cub Scout - and John answers/tells about a struggle he overcame; Joan beat breast cancer back into the stone-age this year and we're going to celebrate by planning our spring garden . . . ). I guess, simpler times, and lasting celebrations. Not to belittle those fortunate enough to go places outside our borders . . . or especially those who give their time and energy and money to good causes (lucky for those in Ethelbert, WA, yeah?). Just kidding. I almost want to make one up: You know, we fought like hell in Helm's Deep and came out swinging with victory when Ol' Gandalf showed up! Fun stuff.
So, I'm thinking about Christmas when I should be thinking about ADVENT. Sackcloth and ashes before the Manger. Getting ready.
Help me to focus, Lord, on this Advent Season. Help me to use this time to prepare my family, who needs so much to know You and Your Mercy. Help us to be thankful right where we're at. Amen.
WE DID IT!! By the way, I just have to say sticking to your guns about school work being done in a timely manner? Bloody (hello) hell! It works! Brilliantly, I might add! We can begin quarter three on Monday. Hurrah!

Great post. Yes -- Advent before Christmas. I'm already seeing lights up and it makes me want to close my eyes. How can we appreciate the great gift Our Lord is if we rush right into the celebration for the sheer fun of it?

ROFL! I could not agree more!
I love simple family letters..those are fine...but going on and on and on........I do that enough in my blogs sometimes..well probably most of the time come to think of it! Christmas cards are fun to receive and see who they are from and hang around the home. Sometimes lengthy letter to cause a bit of jealousy in children who are supposed to be learning not to brag! Its a mix up, I s'pose! :)

Oh...my...GOODNESS! Laughing SO HARD! Tears down my face! Have you ever considered being a catholic comedy writer? Ah! That was excellent. And hey, Helm's Deep was a big deal, man...I'd stick that one in my Christmas letter. You are the best...The best! That post just made my day. The cards are beautiful, btw.

Thanks for the comments, all.

No, Jen I haven't thought about being a Catholic comedy writer, but just a writer/author. That you compliment me so warms my heart. Thank you. I do think there are some other funny(ier) Catholics out there (Sister Mary Martha, Acts of the Apostasy for starters).

I'll post pics of the cards I make tonight in a post tomorrow. Those cards in this post are from someone else . . . just wanted a lurvy pic to go with the post. I won't do that next time! :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas cards. This is my favorite time of the year. I just can not wait to open my mailbox everyday to find a letter and a picture....AND A PICTURE! I love letters with the picture! Just a card with a signed name just isnt the same.
I can not wait to see how big everyone elses children are growing etc....
I know letters get out of hand. But I still like getting them.

I do like getting comments and hearing from all of the bloggers. But a real letter in the mail by golly nothing like it!

I'm loving your idea of a made up letter. May try that one myself!

Catching up here....I love those cards! I wish I could come stamp with you.

I also can't stand those "brag letters" I DO read all of them though...my husband doesn't. Every year I say I'm not going to do "the letter" but each year, it sounds a little better. I do like to make my cards personal by adding a small note to those I rarely see.

ADVENT: Wow, I am feeling pressured already and it's not here yet!!

Your word verification says "fat chama" haha!
