Key Bridge and White Knuckles

Hail Mary, full of grace . . .

. . . I survived driving over the Key Bridge in Baltimore. Hurrah!

I am not much for driving in the rat race traffic in the D.C./Baltimore area . . . so my radius for daily driving is quite narrow. I faced down following my husband to port authority to leave our van there to ship to HI this afternoon, although my nerves pretty much almost got the better of me before we got out of the hotel.

My daughter definitely thinks I've lost it . . . I mean, approaching the bridge I started doing that tongue American Indian thing, (you know: la la la la) but in a rather obnoxious way. I was nervous beyond crazy! There is something about cars all around you and driving on a bridge x-hundred feet in the air. That one in the Yupper Peninsula (Upper Michigan) a few summers ago was only do-able 'cos I wasn't driving. I was getting pretty close to the center of the car, though!

Begs the question why I love to fly then? I.love.to.fly. But I hate being in the air and at the wheel . . .

So, Hail Mary, full of grace . . .

. . . thank you. I now have full range of movement beyond my wrists now.

Therese - that's the one. Scared me shitless, if I don't mind saying so (and I don't!). I just can't recall the name of it 'cos I'm trying to forget. I've crossed the floating bridge in WA state so many times, it's amazing . . . not scared of it at all . . . except when it's windy and sheets of rain are pouring out of the sky! Been years, tho'.

Kissteen - la la la la la!

I have a hard time with bridges that span over water - I don't even like driving on roads with water on both sides. Where do you go if a crazy nut comes driving down your lane?? It's that feeling of being trapped, I guess.

You are not the only one! I'm terrified of driving over large bridges, too!! It totally wigs me out. :)

I totally agree!!!! I hate bridges like that. My stomach drops completely out of me. If someone else is driving it's better cause I can close my eyes. I drove over one in Charleston SC to pick up my son at the port that was UNBELIEVABLE!! It went for miles and miles up and down and up and down. I was in a constant state of panic. I could hardly breathe. I was almost in tears. And my kids thought I was nuts too. Glad you made it. Something to offer up, huh? And you did it! Congrats!

And now that you're not facing a trip across the Mackinac Bridge shall I tell you that cars have actually BLOWN over the side of that thing? Small cars in high winds. Sometimes they have to close the bridge when the winds are too high. I haven't been over that one in quite a few years. It is a scary one.

Rosemary - yeah, it was a Yugo, I think. And with mini-green-micro- lawnmowers with seats being pushed by the environmental wackos, the mfrs ought to make sure the cushions double as flotations devices - I can see those Smart cars getting blown over like leaves off a roof.

Larry D, that's hilarious. Yeah, they better start raising the railings now.
